Nordfjord Gloppen

  •  /  km From You

In Myklebustdal valley, under Mt. Snønipa (1827 m.a.s.) you will see the Sandalsfoss and Strupen waterfalls.

The Sanddalfossen is a very powerful and impressing waterfall with a single drop of about 100 meters in the river Sanddalselva.

The Sanndalfossen is fed by serveral glaciers from which the Myklebust, on an altitude of 1739 meters is the largest. There are several trails that leads to the glacier or to a big lake named Svartebotnen.

The Sanddalsfossen kan be found in the Sanddalen near Byrkjelo/Sogn og Fjordane. When driving on road E39 take the turn to road 60>693 into the Sanddalen and Myklebust. It is a 5 kilometer drive from Byrkjelo. From the road it is a 10-15 minute walk along a road next to river.

A little bit further into the valley you will find several other waterfall like the Spirefossen and one of the highest waterfall in Norway "Strupenfossen", also fed by the glacier Myklebust. Once the melting water thunders down you will see numerous falls next to each other giving a great spectacle. Total height of the falls is over 800 meters. As many other waterfalls it is again the discussion where the fall starts and ends. But for the time-being it stays 840 meters.
