Sandsøya and Voksa are located at the far end of southern Sunnmøre, with Vestkapp and Stadhavet as the nearest neighbors. Sandshamn was in earlier times an important trading town, and Sandsøya had more than 500 inhabitants in the 1960s. Today, this number is about halved.
Nevertheless, there is a lot going on on Sandsøya and Voksa throughout the year, and the small island community can also be proud of a school where the children have thrived well in many years. Sandsøya and Voksa are a safe place to grow up.
The island has great fishing spots in a number of places, and the underwater fauna is an exciting starting point for diving and other underwater activities.
Sandsøy also has a bustling animal and bird life, something you will be able to experience on a walk along the fjord rocks. Parts of the island are protected, and here you can find a number of rare birds, including one of the coast's largest colonies of sea eagles.
