Selsøyvik Trading Post in Rødøy

Selsøyvik Trading Post is one of Helgeland’s oldest and most esteemed accommodation options. The island of Selsøyvik is beautifully situated along the shipping lane, surrounded by Rødøyløva, Hestmannen, and Svartisen. Here you will find accommodation, a large and beautiful guest harbor, a general store, and a café.

Since 1777, Selsøyvik has been a trading post and inn, and its long history imbues the place with a rich and pleasant atmosphere to this day. At the same time, the place has the feeling of timelessness that is characteristic of these small island communities, and you can feel it as you wander among the historic buildings. Whether you’re staying in the magnificent “Rødstua,” in your own boat at the guest pier, or just visiting for the day at the café and trading post, you’ll notice that this is a place where time is your own.

Accommodation
At Selsøyvik, you can stay in the “Rødstua” or in an apartment in the magnificent main house.

Rødstua
The “Rødstua” is a charming, authentic old Nordland house built adjacent to the trading post. Here, you have three bedrooms with a total of five beds, a private kitchen, a bathroom, and a spacious living room. It is very suitable for groups of friends or larger families.

Apartment
The apartment is located on the second floor of the main house and features three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. From the windows here, you have a beautiful view of the harbor and the open coastal landscape to the northwest. On fine summer evenings, it’s fantastic to sit by the windows with a good glass of wine while the sun slowly sets on the horizon.

Guest harbor
With a large and well-equipped guest harbor, Selsøyvik is an excellent stopover for those traveling along the Helgeland coast by boat. Here, you’ll find a spacious and well-equipped guest harbor with room for between 15 and 20 boats, along with access to water and electricity. The guest harbor features a nice service building with toilets, showers, a washing machine, and a dryer. It’s great to stop here for a few days, and you can use Selsøyvik as a base for day trips to the other islands in the area.

The service building is universally designed.

Country store and Café
Selsøyvik’s old country store is an experience in itself. Here, you’ll find a simple but comprehensive selection of the most essential groceries you need for everyday life and special occasions, as well as fishing gear, games, and reading material.

In the cozy café, you can enjoy a good lunch, coffee and cakes, or simply something refreshing in your glass. The old timber walls give the place a warm and cozy atmosphere, but on sunny days, there’s nothing like sitting outside in the beautiful courtyard. Then, you can just lean back, watch the sea and boat life while the waves and bees hum

Activities in the area
The trading post has its own excellent disc golf course with 12 baskets. You can both rent and buy discs at the country store.

Selsøyvik is also a great starting point for kayaking trips. It’s nice to paddle around the smaller islets and straits between Selsøyvik and Rangsundøya, or out towards Sundøya which is a bit further out.

The local ferry can take you to several other islands in the area, such as Rødøy to visit Rødøyløva, or to Gjerdøy to visit Lyngvågen Café and Gjerdøyhamn.

Selsøyvik is connected by road to the neighboring island Rangsundøya, which has several nice and easy-to-walk mountains. Breiviktinden is one of the closest. It’s just under 230 meters high, but in the low landscape, you get a great view of the surrounding islands.
