One of the most spectacular ski expeditions you can do is our fantastic ski trip to Ny Ålesund. We will pass through miles of glacial landscape at a time of year when the sun is shining 24/7. You will experience fiords and mountains, wildlife, the Ny-Ålesund settlement, and we will end the trip on board the historical vessel MS Nordstjernen.
We start up with a meet and greet, and a briefing before we are transported to the starting point of the expedition in Borebukta. The first stage ends in Trollheimen, an amazing area between the Isfjord and the Kongsfjord, where you can enjoy the complete silence, away from all the buzz in town.
PROGRAM DAY BY DAY
Day 1:
Meeting with the guides at Coal Miners’ Cabin at 10 am for some practical information and the latest weather forecast, before we head down to our storage. The guide will go through all the equipment and help you to pack your sleds correctly. Hurtigruten Svalbard has two equipment stores if you are in need for some extra gear. Accomodation in Coal Miners’ Cabins is included.
Day 2:
Leave all unnecessary luggage in the storage room at the hotel. Breakfast and check-out ends at 10 am, and we urge you to fill your thermoses and water bottles before departure. The pick-up to the expedition center is at 10 am, where you will get a brief before the boat transport to Borebukta.
Day 3-6:
We head out to the wilderness and glacial landscapes. We start by ascending the Bore glacier before heading into Geitpasset. Eventually we will see St. Jons fiord. We keep on skiing north to the Osborne glacier and then down Kongs fiord. We will break camp each day at 10 am and set up a new one at approximately 6 pm. Since the midnight sun is shining this time of year, we are able to keep a pace depending on conditions and the overall endurance of the group. We will make sure that you have enough time to take breaks and enjoy this majestic landscape.
Day 7:
We will arrive at Kongsfjorden where the vessel MS Nordstjernen waits for our pick-up. On board, you can clean up, and enjoy a tasty meal in the restaurant. After dinner we will get a guided tour in Ny-Ålesund, before we go back on board for our return to Longyearbyen.
Day 8:
We will arrive Longyearbyen around 10 am. If you want to extend your stay to explore Longyearbyen and its surroundings, our sales team will help you with accommodation and activities.
The program can be changed along the way if weather conditions makes it necessary. We will adapt the pace to the conditions and the participants' physical strength.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION:
The trip requires you to be in good shape, strong and enduring enough to ski longer distances with a heavy sled. Please remember that the weather can change quickly and that the conditions can be challenging at all times. Bring good, warm winter clothes, mountain skis with skins and steel edges, sturdy ski boots with support, and good bindings. Randonée equipment or regular cross-country skis are not recommended.
We will send you a complete equipment list before departure. Remember that Svalbard is VAT-free, and if you forgot something, you can buy quality equipment in our outdoor shop Longyear78.
Language
Safety is our highest priority, and the guide needs to be able to give you instructions you understand. To participate in our tours, you must speak and understand English, or a Scandinavian language.
