The museum is situated in the old, preserved wooden building in skudeneshavn. The museum provides an insight into how the town grew in the 1800s during the rich herring fishery period. You can see how a middle-class family lived 150 years ago. The museum also contains a shop from 1840, a merchant’s house, a dentist’s surgery, seahouses and old workshops filled with fishing equipment and boats. There is also a separate the- matic exhibition on seafaring and agriculture. Mælandsgården Museum is unique because all of its exhibits have remained in their authentic environment.
