Join us on snowmobile through some of the most spectacular Arctic scenery that Svalbard has to offer, to the impressive Russian settlement of Pyramiden and the imposing Nordenskiöld glacier. Lying at the head of Billefjord, Pyramiden used to house the largest population on Svalbard; now it resembles something more of a ghost-town, with only a handful of residents. The story of this transition is a fascinating one and your guide will be happy to share this story, among many others, with you during a tour through the deserted town. As you move through the streets it is not difficult to imagine how it might have been when the town was fully operational, a fantastic example of accomplishing the impossible. We eat an expedition lunch before departing for one of the most beautiful glacier fronts Svalbard has to offer. The Nordenskiöld glacier is one of the more active glaciers to be found, with carvings throughout the year. Wildlife is often diverse on this trip; due to the availability of ice, seals are a common sight in this area, and Arctic foxes or Svalbard reindeer can be seen on the quiet streets of Pyramiden. Our friendly and professional guides have all the experience and drive to make this an unforgettable experience, while remaining safe in such a wild and unforgiving environment.
We recommend that everyone drives their own snowmobile; this is easier than driving with a passenger. This trip is dependent on weather and ice conditions, especially early and late in the season, as well as a minimum number of participants.
