Visit our fourlegged friends at Green Dog
AN INTRODUCTION TO SNOWMOBILES
A taste of snowmobiling, local history and visiting a dog yard! A perfect introduction to snowmobiling for beginners, and ideal for families with children.
The goal for this tour is Green Dog, which is located just 10km from Longyearbyen at the foot of the Mine 7 mountain. The guide will lead us at a relaxed tempo and stop often to check that everyone is comfortable and to share information on the local area. The Advent Valley is steeped in history - with sites pertaining to mining, World War II and early scientific research to be found.
The Svalbard reindeer is a common sight in this area, and occasionally the Svalbard ptarmigan also makes an appearance. These animals are local to this area, and are only found on Svalbard.
We will make a stop at Green Dog where we will say hi to many of our four-legged husky friends. Our guide will serve us warm drinks, before we head back towards Longyearbyen. This is a perfect trip for those who wish to try snowmobiling and is also suitable for children. Also a great introduction for driving an snowmobile, if you are planning a longer trip the next day. The guide can provide a closed, heated trailer which can seat up to 4 people, which is particularly suitable for small children.
