A breathtaking trip through changing landscapes, across a glacier and through valleys to our Russian neighbours in the west.
We will pick you at your hotel and then we will drive to our office, where you will get your clothes and briefing before the trip starts. The route will depend on the weather and driving conditions.
This is a trip that will take you through a varied landscape with evident traces of the ice age’s ravaging of the mountains. As ours is a small group, we have the opportunity to add extra stops and experiences. In the narrow valleys and in the vast, open spaces we will probably meet a lot of reindeer that, amazingly, manage to live off the sparse plants that exist here. Along the way we see the remains of Russian coalmining as we stop in the abandoned Russian mining town Coles Bay.
Weather permitting, the trip continues along the coast after Coles Bay. Here we have a magnificent view of Isfjorden and the spectacular mountains on the other side of the fjord. We drive along the coast and will occasionally stop to look for seals, polar bears and whalerus in the packice. The first we will see of Barentsburg is the helicopter base at Kapp Heer. If the driving conditions are good, we will make a little detour to the top of the mountain above Barentsburg where there is a beautiful view of Barentsburg and Grønfjorden.
In Barentsburg there will be time to wander about and take in the special atmosphere. Maybe you’ll be tempted to get some Russian souvenirs?
After Barentsburg we set course for Longyearbyen again, but that does not mean that there is nothing left to experience. If the conditions are favourable, we will take a different route and will make several stops along the way. The last stop before Longyearbyen is on the pass at the top of the glacier Longyearbreen. From here we have an astonishing view of Longyearbyen with Adventfjorden and the 1000 metres high mountain Hiortfjellet in the background. Now it is only about 15 minutes until we can stop and turn off the snowmobiles after an eventful and unforgettable day.
We have a maximum of 6 snowmobiles with guests on our trips. This is to offer you the best experience possible. There will not be so much waiting and the guide will have more time for each participant. This also means that, conditions permitting, we may take small detours from the ordinary routes and find alternative routes where few or noone have driven before us this season.
We put safety first, so we always need to have snowmobiles with free seats. That means 4 snowmobiles for 5-6 guests, 5-6 snowmobiles for 7-8 guests,
Included in the trip:
- Snowmobile
- Fuel
- Search and rescue insurance
- Full snowmobile equipment (snowmobile suit, boots, mittens, balaclava, helmet/goggles)
- Lunch at the hotel in Barentsburg
- Guide with safety equipment
