Have you ever been to the USSR? Welcome to our Arctic time machine and experience the real Soviet atmosphere far in the north – in the ghost town Pyramiden.

Day 1. Glaciers and valleys: Longyearbyen - Adventelva - Sassendalen - Tempelfjorden - Burn Murdochbreen - Boltonbreen - Gipsdalen - Adolfbukta - Pyramiden
After breakfast and check-out from your hotel we pick you up around 9 am at your place of accommodation and our guide will take you to the Expedition Centre Russki Dom for a briefing. We will give you some info on the planned route and update on the weather forecast. We provide solid and warm snowmobile suits. After a safety briefing on how to drive snowmobiles, we are equipped and ready to discover Svalbard’s spectacular Arctic wilderness.

We will drive over glaciers, through valleys, and cross the white plains of Adventdalen and Sassendalen. Expedition lunch is served on the way. Coming to Fjordnibba where a splendid view to both Tempelfjord, Sassenfjord and Tunabreen opens up, we stop for a while to admire the beauty and breathe out. Then passing the Van Post and Tuna glacier as if blue-green backdrops. We travel across one of the most beautiful fjords on Svalbard- Tempelfjord. Driving along Adolf Bay in half an hour we are warmly welcomed at Pyramiden hotel.

At approx. 6 pm there will be a check-in procedure at the hotel and then a 4-course dinner is served in the hotel restaurant. Afterwards we visit the post office and souvenir shop. And later we spend a cozy evening watching historical documentary films from the Soviet period of Pyramiden.

Depending on the weather and snow conditions our guide can change today’s route.

Snowmobiling 115 km, 5 – 5,5 hrs

Day 2. Fascinating Pyramiden surroundings and Svalbard animals
After a breakfast walk around Pyramiden. We will visit old buildings closed in 90's such as the school, the old canteen, culture palace and swimming pool. Lunch at the hotel restaurant around 2 pm. After this, we drive for a snowmobile safari in the spectacular surroundings of Pyramiden. Pyramiden is located right in the heart of the Arctic wilderness. While looking over its surroundings we can easily come across polar foxes, reindeers as well as the mammals: seals, walruses at the glacier Nordenskiøldbreen. We may also encounter polar bears. We don't have permission to track them down or get close to them, but if we use our binoculars we might have an opportunity to view this majestic creature from a safe distance. Depending on the weather and snow conditions our guide will choose the most preferable route.

Return to the settlement. Dinner and overnight in Pyramiden.

Snowmobiling 55 km, 2,5 - 3 hrs

Day 3. One more adventure in Pyramiden surroundings and back to Longyearbyen: Pyramiden - Adolfbukta - Nordenskiöldbreen - Filchnerfonna - Rabotbreen - Sassendalen - Eskerdalen - Longyearbyen
After breakfast, we head out for an additional snowmobile safari or go for a walking tour in the magnificent surroundings of Pyramiden. The choice of the route depends on the snow and weather conditions. Approx. 12 pm lunch at Pyramiden hotel.

After lunch we leave this lovely settlement. On the way back we come across Petunia Bay and drive to Brucebyen - a Scottish coal mining settlement from 1919. Soon across valley and canyons, we come closer to the Nordenskiöld glacier – most stunning and available among the largest glaciers. One more short stop to take pictures of marine mammals besides the Nordenskiöld glacier. We travel to the great Nordenskiöld glacier and pass the pink shade mountains to find ourselves in the middle of the endless Lomonosov plain. Just take a look around the ice kingdom...
