Solsida is a varied and easygoing route from the center of Bø, ending to the Telemark Canal. Lunde Kanalcamping is also a great starting point.
SOLSIDA - THE SUN SIDE
Length: 17.6 km
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Level: Medium
Suitable for: Adult / child / senior
Starting Point
This bike tour starts in Bø sentrum, but can also be started in Lunde (Telemark kanalcamping).
In Bo center there is a good range of shops and services and should you need to fix some of the bike before the start, so there are three sports shops here who provide. One of the campuses to TUC are also in Bo, so student life is buzzing and you find good cafes, concerts and events here.
The tour takes you through spectacular scenery, past the swimming area and until the Telemark Canal.
Bø gamle kirke - old church
Bø old church is a medieval church (1150-1180) built in built-up rubble. It is built on the place of a few decades older wooden with buried corner posts. Excavations indicate that the choir and some of the walls of the ship was built while wooden church was in use so that services could continue during the construction of the stone church. It is one of 17 Olav churches still survive.
Norheimstjønn
By this little water you can find a nice beach. The beach is often used by locals and is one of bathing waters that are first hot in the summer. If you're going with children, this is a nice stopover. Norheimstjønn can also be a nice goal in itself with kids on bike.
Troll car
The troll car was the first real attempt to initiate a large-scale automobile production in Norway. The project was initiated by the engineer Per Kohl-Larsen, who got hold of forms to a car from Germany. Together with its partners Erling Fjugstad Bruno Falch they changed these forms and tried to initiate production of the car in Lunde in Telemark. This happened in 1956-58. One of the copies you will find on display in Lunde center. You bikes right past Troll car on this trip.
Lunde
Lunde has a pleasant city that is known for always being adorned with beautiful flowers in summer. Lunde is a good base for activities along the Telemark Canal. We recommend taking the trip down to Lunde lock where the canal boats passing.
Here you will also find a park and canal camp that rent bikes, kayaks and canoes. There is also a hostel in Lunde if one wants to spend a night here.
Enjoy!
