Solstråleøya recreation area

On the island of Solstråleøya, you'll find a beautiful outdoor recreation area. It is located in the eastern part of Godøysund.

At the northern tip of Solstråleøya, you'll find toilets, a grill, a grindabuilding, and a dock. A floating pier is located on the southwest side of the island, and a small sandy beach suitable for children can be found on the western side. The island's old warden's house is available for rent by arrangement with the Solstråleøya Friends Association (Solstråleøya venelag). There is also a dock and an information board below the house. Solstråleøya is a green island with around 20 tree species, and old walking paths have been cleared. The island was gifted to the Norwegian royal family in 1905 after being under British ownership. Following King Olav's death, the heirs donated the island to Tysnes municipality, under the condition that the property be used "as a public outdoor recreation area, with priority for the disabled."

Swimming and beach activities

On Solstråleøya, you'll find two pristine white sand beaches that, on a warm summer day, can transport your thoughts to much more exotic places. Both beaches are located in large, sheltered bays, where it's not uncommon to find high water temperatures. The municipality and the Friends Association have also installed diving boards and floating piers for all visitors to enjoy.

Accommodation

It is also possible to stay overnight on Solstråleøya. There is one house available for rent, with a pier that renters have access to. If you wish to rent the house, you can contact the Solstråleøya Friends Association.
