Sota Sæter is a staffed tourist lodge in Skjåk, by the gateway to Breheimen National Park. Here you stay in an idyllic courtyard with ten buildings, surrounded by magnificent nature, and you’re served good meals after hikes to glaciers and peaks such as Tverrådalskyrkja and Jostedalsbreen.
Sota Sæter is originally a more than 100-year-old mountain summer farm (seter) located at 745 meters above sea level in Skjåk, by the southern end of Liavatnet. Today it is a staffed tourist lodge with long traditions. Here you can sleep well in fairy-tale-like buildings before heading out on hikes in the wilderness of Breheimen. The nature around the seter offers airy summit hikes and day trips of varying lengths.
Here you’ll find a cozy atmosphere, a sauna with a view, and dining experiences based on local ingredients—from a three-course dinner to a five-course dinner on Saturday evenings. The kitchen at Sota Sæter provides culinary experiences for guests, with a strong focus on high-quality local food.
Sota is a perfect starting point for trips in Breheimen: lush valleys, rugged high mountains, and glaciers create striking contrasts. Experience majestic views from Tverrådalskyrkja, 2,088 m a.s.l., bring your fishing rod to an idyllic mountain lake, or plan a hut-to-hut trip. Trips to Jostedalsbreen and Fortundalsbreen also start here.
Sota Sæter is especially well suited for outdoorsy families with children, as the fenced-in yard creates a safe and sheltered environment. In summer you might be lucky enough to meet both cows and goats outside the gate.
If you want to stay several days at Sota Sæter, they offer guided tours, rafting, and canyoning.
The courtyard consists of ten buildings in classic Gudbrandsdalen style, with a total of 86 beds, divided among 2–3-person rooms, larger rooms, and a dormitory.
There is a road all the way to the lodge.
