Details

Spitsbergen Blomstrand Trekking is a 9-day experience, combining two of our most popular summer products: The magical cruise with MS Nordstjernen to 80 degrees north and a stay in our trekking camp on the Blomstrand beach in Kongsfjorden.

Your Artic adventure starts from Longyearbyen with the breathtaking voyage with MS Nordstjernen to the northwest Spitsbergen National Park. This the quintessential Spitsbergen experience. You get to visit Barentsburg and Ny-Ålesund, and marvel at the amazing landscapes and unique wildlife in the Arctic. Focusing on the Northwest Spitsbergen National Park, we will experience the extraordinary Arctic landscape, glaciers and bird cliffs. After two or three nights onboard MS Nordstjernen, depending on a Tuesday or Friday departure, we get to the north side of Kongsfjorden and Blomstrandhamna - our base camp and home in the wilderness.

Welcome to the Blomstrand peninsula

The Blomstrand peninsula is situated south of the camp. This island was attached to mainland Svalbard a few years ago by the Blomstrand glacier. This glacier has now retracted and we will circumnavigate to reach the island. The area offers a variety of trekking routes like the Feiring mountain (1053 meters above sea level), the Norvåg mountain (460 meters above sea level), the Olssøn-mountain (518 meters above sea level) and the Blomstrand glacier. A hike on the glacier offers spectacular ice formations and crevasses. It’s a fantastic view over the surrounding mountains and the Kongsfjord area. You might be able to see and hear the glacier calving into the sea.

Different hikes every day

Every day, different hikes will be planned. We hike in small groups, together with our knowledgeable local guide who carries all the necessary safety equipment. Only a minimum of clothes and food are needed for these one-day hikes. There are no paths or roads where we go hiking. The terrain is rocky, wild, untouched and beautiful! Living in the camp intensifies the feeling of freedom and our connection to the Arctic.

The King of the Arctic

The camp is equipped with large communal tents for meals and group activities, or even for drying clothes. We have smaller tents set up for sleeping. During the light Artic night, we take turns of watching the camp for polar bears. There is always a guide close by who will be alarmed and take control if you see the king of the Artic.

Two great experiences in one product

We will spend three days here before MS Nordstjernen calls for our return. It feels nice to get onboard and enjoy a hot shower and a great meal before we set sail and head back to Longyearbyen.

On this trip, you will get two great experiences in one product. Both the fantastic cruise with MS Nordstjernen and getting into the Artic wilderness to enjoy some breathtaking hikes and glacier hikes from our Blomstrand trekking camp. This is an adventure you don’t want to miss!
