St. Olavs Chapel at Stiklestad
In Verdal, on the premises of the Stiklestad National Cultural Center, you will find the Holy Olav Chapel.
The chapel is a Russian Orthodox church building that was consecrated by Hijlarion Alfeyev in Folldal in 2003. Originally, the chapel was a log-built storehouse from Folldal, dating back to the mid-1700s. It belonged to the Orthodox monk Father John Føien and was located on his farm in Folldal. In 2013, Stiklestad was offered the opportunity to take over the chapel. In October 2014, the chapel was re-consecrated, this time at Stiklestad, in commemoration of the millennium celebration of St. Olav's baptism in Rouen.
St. Olav the Holy was canonized in 1031, before the significant schism in the church in 1054. As a result, he is also considered a saint in the Russian Orthodox tradition.
