Magasingården is an approved accommodation provider for the Kystpilegrimsleia coastal pilgrimage path, which can be done by sea or road from Egersund to Trondheim. A stay at Magasingården provides an opportunity to experience the historic mining community in Visnes first hand. Magasingården, originally an old carpentry workshop from the time when the mines in Visnes were Norway’s largest workplace, is a unique experience for children and adults alike.

Magasingården has bright and well-maintained rooms, perfect for travellers who want to save money without compromising on comfort. You have access to a bathroom, living room and shared kitchen at an affordable price. You can bring your own food and make your own meals in the kitchen.

Magasingården is open in June, July and August.


How many beds does Magasingården have?

Magasingården has 50 bunks and single beds, in 13 rooms. If you’re travelling with small children, we recommend that you bring a travel cot.

You don’t have to think about cleaning after your stay – it’s included in the price.


How to get to Visnes

By car: To get to Magasingården in Visnes, turn off the RV 47 road at Avaldsnes and drive 4.3 km to Visnes. There is plenty of parking at Magasingården.

By bus: From Haugesund, take bus 209 or 210 to Avaldsnes, and get off at Avaldsnes. From there, change to Kolumbus bus 221, which operates from Avaldsnes to Visnes.


What is there to do in the area around Magasingården?

You can learn more about the fascinating history of mining at Visnes Mining Museum. With the Tilbakeblikk app, you can go exploring and watch scenes from the mining era unfold in the cultural landscape.

A 10-minute drive takes you to Historiske Avaldsnes where you can learn more about Viking history and visit the Regional Pilgrimage Centre.

Haugesund town centre is a 15-minute drive from Magasingården, and Skudeneshavn is about a 40-minute drive away.
