Guided hiking tour, with farm visit
Come and see the farm, the surrounding area and our animals! We pick you up at the port and take you to Steim. On our guided hike we visit the Steim farm and the surrounding area, with traditional and modern farming. We walk through the Norwegian landscape and visit the animals in their summer pastures. There are several nice photo opportunities along the way.
With views of the fjord and surrounding mountains we enjoy a cup of coffee and a selection of local snacks in a traditional, hand built hut. We then descend back down to the farm, which is a great starting point for further exploration of Vik. Pickup and drop off service is included.

Our animals:
On the farm we have 10 Alpacas, 12 Boar goats and three muscowy ducks. As neighbours to our animals there are horses, pigs and sheep that we might be able to visit.
Alpacas:
We have 10 alpacas on the farm, 6 females, a male and one cria (alpaca babies) that were born in 2023. The alpaca is pregnant for anywhere from 335 to 370 days, and usually gives birth to only 1 cria. Alpacas are great grazing animals and produce fine wool that can be spun into extra warm and light yarn. They are a camel species originally from South America, yet they thrive outside in all kinds of weather and rarely enter their stables.
Boer goats:
We have 12 goats of the boer type. They are originally from South Africa, but also thrive in more northern regions. But if the weather is cold or wet, they prefer to go inside. They are great grazers and prefer leaves and bushes, unlike the Alpaca and the sheep who prefer to eat grass. They are experts at escaping, during a summer there are often dozens of trips to look for them and to find their escape routes.
Muscovy ducks:
We have 3 muscovy ducks on the farm, two ducks and a drake (male). Their names are Elsa, Anna and Michael Jackson. They came to the farm in the summer of 2022 from a nearby farm. The muscowy is a calm and easygoing duck breed with a lot of personality! They are larger and quieter than other types of duck. They are also special for their clawed feet, which allows them to perch or roost in trees. They lay eggs that are larger and stronger than chicken eggs, but can be used for cooking in the same way. They like to hide their eggs in tree trunks and other sheltered places, where they can incubate up to 30 eggs at the same time. Our ducks can fly short distances and are free to roam where they want. The drake is too heavy to fly. They have beautiful feathers that shine green in the sun. At Steim, they spend their days eating snails and small plants, swimming in the duck pond and sneaking into the neighbour's flower bed.
