We will meet at the parking area in Steindalen. Your tour begins with a walk up the lushly, forested lower valley before opening out into the distinct u-shaped valley created by the glacier.
The hike is done at a leisurely pace, with regular breaks and photo stops. Your guide will talk about the life cycle of the glacier and how it has shaped the landscape you are walking through. You will also pass marked sites where the glacier has been in past years, a visible sign of our changing climate.
There is often a chance to see local wildlife, with both sheep and reindeer grazing in the valley. If you’re lucky you might even see a sea eagle, who often nests in the valley.
We will have a pack lunch and hot drink at the foot of the glacier, surrounded by the towering mountains.
Make sure you inform us in case of any food allergies or medical conditions/injuries relevant to the tour.
Note: This isn’t a glacier hike. For a full-guided hike onto the upper parts of the glacier please contact us for more information.
