The area includes 5 trout lakes (Grøndalsvatnet, Steindalstjønna, Bjørneggtjønna, Grøndalstjønna and Heskotjønna) from 670 m.a.s.l. until 984 m.a.s.l. and about 8 km of trout river.

To reach this area, turn off rv 63 to Grønningsæter. Continue about 1,5 km on toll road towards Steindalsstølen. parking. About 3 hours walk from the parking to Tjønne, to 4 of the highest situated lakes. Accommodation possible in one of hte cabins of Ålesund-Sunnmøre Turistforening, Tjønnebu, a self-catering cabin without supplies. To get to Grøndalen and the lake Grøndalsvatnet, turn off the old farm road following the path and through scree, about 1 hour walk. The path from Grøndalen to Tjønne along the lake Grøndalsvatnet is winding and difficult, so the best choice will be the path through Steindalen.

Season: Some years the highest situated lakes are scarcely free from ice, however, fishing in the area is common from the middle of July till the middle of September. The area is also suitable for winter fishing, although walking in Steindalen should be avoided when there is danger of avalanches.
