Exhibition presenting the transition from paganism to Christianity in Norway.

On July 29, 1030, the most famous battle in Norwegian history took place at Stiklestad. It was here that Viking King Olav Haraldsson fell, marking the beginning of the story of Martyr King Olav the Holy.

The legacy of Olav has influenced Norwegian society for nearly a thousand years. The exhibition "Stiklestad 1030" is a journey into Olav's time and the significant shift from Norse paganism to Christianity. What did this religious transition actually entail? Why did people rebel against Olav? What were the consequences of the king's fall at Stiklestad? Text, images, tableaus, and, most importantly, original artifacts from Olav's own era allow you to get up close to a society in transition and the core history of Stiklestad.

The exhibition "Stiklestad 1030" is the permanent exhibition at Stiklestad National Cultural Center and can be experienced in the brick hallway in the courtyard of the cultural center.

Welcome!
