Destination Gausta offers a range of exciting activities in beautiful nature surroundings for active children and adults who enjoy the outdoors, but also for those who appreciate the calmness of the mountains.
Biking
Rjukan has become a popular destination for cyclists! At Gausta you can try your hand at biking on a pump track, which is a kind of bike track where you use a pumping motion to propel the bike instead of pedalling. The fun activity is suitable for all ages and capabilities!
The establishment of the pump track at Gausta is part of a three-year investment in cycling at Gausta, with the ambition of turning Gausta into one of the best destinations for family cycling in Scandinavia. This also includes the establishment of various bike trails for mountain biking.
SUP boards
At Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell you can rent SUP boards and take a paddle trip on Kvitåvatn. SUP stands for Stand Up Paddling, and is a large type of surfboard where you stand up and move along using a paddle. A fun activity for both adults and children (recommended age 10 and above)
Mini golf
Challenge your company in a round of mini golf right outside the main entrance of Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell. This is an activity suitable for both old and young! Rent your equipment at the hotel.
Mini dinghies
Rent a mini dinghy on the small pond outside Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell! Here the children can enjoy themselves on the water while at the same time learning to row in safe and calm surroundings.
Canoes, rowing boats and pedal boats
Enjoy the peaceful Kvitåvatn in a canoe, rowing boat or pedal boat. With a first-row view towards the majestic Mount Gausta, you can discover the magnificent nature that Destination Gausta has to offer.
Floating saunas
Experience warmth and peace by visiting one of the two floating saunas on lake Kvitåvatn at Gausta. Here you can enjoy the beautiful scenery, with magnificent Mount Gausta as the eye-catcher itself.
Fishing
Did you know that in Tinn Municipality there are about 800 fishing waters? In the Gausta area you can try your luck fishing while enjoying the peacefulness of Gaustas beautiful surroundings. Most fishing licenses can be bought at inatur.no, at Rjukan Tourist Office or locally in the Gausta area.
Horse riding
Gausta’s spectacular scenery can also be experienced from the horse’s back! Book a horse-riding trip from Hulderhest and enjoy all the good things that nature has to offer.
Hiking
Gausta is the perfect destination for hiking, both for the ones who want to challenge themselves and for those who want a nice day trip with coffee and chocolate in the backpack.
The most popular hike is to Mount Gausta, and this is not without reason! The mountain roams at 1883 metres above sea level, and on a clear day you can see over one-sixth of Norway while you enjoy a fresh waffle from Gaustatoppen Tourist Cabin. There are different options for hikes that go to the top, the easiest and most popular being the hike from Stavsro. You can also take Gaustabanen, which is a train inside the mountain that brings you to the top in only fifteen minutes.
In addition to Gaustatoppen, are Toreskyrkja, Ørnenipa and Skipsfjell great hikes in the Gausta area.
