Drive your own team of dogs on the road in Adventdalen, where you may see more of the Arctic fauna, like reindeer or birds. We visit the Trappers Station for a hot drink after the trip!
The dogs in the summer need just as much love, attention and exercise as in the winter and we are happy to offer summer dog sledding. Instead of travelling in the traditional way behind a wooden sled, here at Basecamp we have wagons that enable an equally enjoyable and exciting experience. There is no previous knowledge required, only bring your instincts! Our guide picks you up at your hotel and give you more information about the trip. The guide will then take you out to the Trappers Station where the dog yard is located - about 10 minutes from town at the foot of Breinosa Mountain. You will be greeted by 90 excited Alaskan Huskies who are all eagerly waiting to take you on a trip. In this exciting environment you will be taught the basics of handling the dogs and help to harness them to the wagon yourself. It is two people to a wagon and whilst one is driving the other can enjoy the rich countryside of the arctic in summer. You can expect to see abundant amounts of arctic plant life and birds and reindeer in their natural habitat. After the tour you will help the guide settle the dogs back into the yard before heading back to Longyearbyen.
