During Viking times, Hernar Island was a central hub for travellers to the western islands of Norway and, during the last few centuries established, itself as an important trading post. During your journey from Hernar bay, where the Viking ships set sail, and up the hill with its ancient stone monuments, you will hear about the exploits of Baron Aslak of Hernar, the dramatic events at Hernar during the age of ’Kapertida’ (1807-1814), and the people-trafficking which took place from "England’s quay" during the World War II. The English language tour needs to be booked in advance. A German language tour is also available. Please arrive in good time at the meeting place where you'll be able to purchase a ticket from your guide.

Meet at: Hellesøy Quay

Through prior arrangement, this tour can be booked throughout the year.
