Tarva archipelago has an area of approx. 14 km2, of which the inhabited Husøya is ca. 8 km2. The road from the harbor in the south to the north Valøya is about four kilometers long. It is said that Tarva have as many islets and rocks as there are days in the year.
Tarva is a paradoxical country, with bombs and artillery range on the outside (Karlsøya), and protected Landscape on the inside (Været). In the protected area is recorded 206 different plants.
