Showcases the natural and cultural history of the coast - from the Stone Age to the "oil age
Get a glimpse of the daily life on the coast - from the Stone Age to the “oil age”!
The Coastal Museum in Sogn og Fjordane showcases the natural and cultural history of the coast. The exhibition halls provide a glimpse of daily life on the coast, the development of the town of Florø, tools used for fishing and hunting, and a large collection of local boats. The museum is located on a lovely spacious coastal site within walking distance of Florø town centre.
OPEN-AIR MUSEUM
The museum site lies in a varied coastal landscape. A network of footpaths and bridges makes the area into an open-air museum that communicates information on culture and nature. Here you can visit an old salting shack that still smells of the herring hung here to dry and view “The Big Herring Adventure” exhibition.
FAMILY FUN
The museum is wide open for children to explore and experience all year round. Searching for a fun coastal adventure to keep the kids extra happy over the summer holidays? Let them join the Children’s Coastal Museum! Here the children can go crabbing, row a boat and feed the cute goats the graze by the museum.
PETROLEUM ACTIVITIES
The building named “Snorreankeret” houses one of the largest exhibitions on petroleum activities in Norway. You can explore Norway’s role as a global energy exporter - and even try to evacuate from an “oil platform”!
TRAVEL TO THE MUSEUM
Visitors arriving by buss or large caravan can drive along Brendøyvegen, parking at the turn-off for "Kystmuseet". Visitors arriving by boat can take the local town bus and walk to the museum from the closest bus stop, about 800 metres. Walking from the town centre takes about 35 minutes.
