Ramme i Hvitsten is a cultural destination for art and nature. We have a fantastic park, a spectacular picture gallery, organic restaurants and a completely separate fjord hotel and Edvard Munch's summer house. Together, it forms an adventurous reality. The cultural destination Ramme is an experience all on its own - we look forward to welcoming you.
Welcome to Ramme
Ramme is located 40-minutes drive south from the centre of Oslo. Guests are able to stay at the brand new Ramme fjordhotell, experience fine dining, visit Ramme’s working eco-farm, walk in Edvard Munch’s footsteps, relax in the idyllic Havlyst Park, and enjoy art exhibitions, plays, concerts and other cultural activities.
Ramme’s art and cultural activities consist of Ramme art gallery with both permanent and temporary art exhibitions, “Vognremissen” with horse-drawn carriage and old automobiles, the beautiful Havlyst Park, Edvard Munch’s former house and property, theatrical performances and concerts. Public events are arranged throughout the year.
Ramme billedgalleri, the art gallery’s, permanent collection includes works by Christian and Oda Krohg, Frits Thaulow, Theodor Kittelsen, Paul Fischer, Oscar Wergeland and Edvard Munch, among others. We will also arrange temporary exhibitions based on Edvard Munch’s life and work at Ramme, as well as other Norwegian artists with links to the area.
Havlystparken, is an unique park facility offering views of the fjord. The park is ideal for taking a relaxing stroll, sitting and meditating, as well as for holding functions and garden parties of all sizes. The park comprises lawns, water features, flower beds, herb and rose gardens, fruit trees, an arboretum and more.
Munch’s Ramme is the property known as Nedre Ramme which the artist Edvard Munch purchased in 1910 and maintained until his death in 1944. Here you can experienced Munch’s landscape via the culture trail “In Munch’s Footsteps” created in cooperation with the local Vestby municipal authority and funded by Sparebankstiftelsen DNB.
Ramme farm, has been involved in organic farming since 1986. The farm focuses on traditional farming values, sustainable production and maintaining a high standard of animal welfare.
Ramme farm has a visitor area with a farm shop and restaurant/cafe serving well-balanced dishes in line with Debio's gold standard for organic foods. At Ramme you can get close to the animals and see how they live and interact. They also specialise in protecting rare breeds of domestic animals as an important part of Norway’s cultural history and genetic diversity.
Tours are being arranged around the farm and other events so that visitors can learn about organic farming and generally have a fun day out.
Ramme fjordhotell is the heart of the farm surrounded by fruit trees, cultivated fields, greenhouses, barns, stables and farm animals. The hotel comprises two buildings – “Herberget” built in 1780s style and «Brenneriet» built in 1880s style. It is a full-service hotel with 42 rooms meticulously furnished to a high standard with antiques and period furniture. You can choose between double or twin-bedded rooms, in addition to luxury suites, pavilions in the park, and even Edvard Much’s house on request.
The hotel’s restaurant serves organic food according to the season. All products will be local produce either from the farm or in combination with local producers.
Ramme fjordhotell is managed by Classic Norway Hotels and the aim is to give private guests, conference guests, groups, wedding parties, etc., a unique and magical experience!
