The Eidsfoss Ironwork

The Eidsfoss Ironwork tells the story of iron production, traditional craftsmanship and the people who built the industrial community of Eidsfoss. At the Ironworks Museum, you can explore cast-iron stoves from the 18th and 19th centuries, products made at the ironworks and exhibitions on industrial and railway history.

Cast-iron stoves and traditional craftsmanship

The Eidsfoss ironworks was established in 1697 and developed into an important industrial enterprise. For generations, it produced iron goods for Norwegian homes and workplaces. At the Ironworks Museum, you can discover how iron was used for both everyday objects and decorative pieces. The collection includes richly decorated cast-iron stoves and items once used in kitchens and workshops. The museum also features an exhibition on railway history and the ironworks' connection to this part of Norwegian industry.

The people behind the ironworks

The story of Eidsfoss is also about its workers and their families. Iron production shaped the community, with workers' homes, a school and other buildings associated with the industry. Many traces of this history can still be seen around Eidsfoss today. The preserved workers' houses and industrial buildings offer a glimpse into everyday life when the ironworks was operating. The Eidsfoss Ironwork also presents local history at other locations in the village. The Ironworks Museum is located at Eidsfossveien 54 in Eidsfoss, Holmestrand municipality.

The museum opens seasonally. In September, regular opening hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon to 5 pm. It is closed from October to April. Opening hours for the rest of the season and special events are published by Vestfoldmuseene.

Admission fees apply. Children aged six and under enter free of charge, and guided group tours are available by arrangement.
