The Fjaler Epicenter - Where Storytelling Meets Landscape
As part of the Fjordkysten Regional and Geopark, the epicenter in Fjaler offers an experience where storytelling and cultural heritage take center stage.
The visitor center in Fjaler is co-located with the Jakob Sande Center for Storytelling in Dale. Here, you can learn more about the art of storytelling and culture.
The main theme of the Fjaler Epicenter is the transmission of storytelling and cultural heritage. It features both indoor and outdoor exhibitions with informative displays.
Fjaler is located on the southern side of the beautiful Dalsfjorden, stretching from lush valleys to the outer coast. The municipality has a long history of industry and education and is now also known for its innovative environment within the IT sector. The population is around 2,800.
In Fjaler, you’ll find the United World College, an international high school with 200 students from all over the world.
Fjaler is also the birthplace of the beloved poet Jakob Sande (1906–1967). The Jakob Sande Center in Dale functions both as a visitor center and as Norway’s national center for storytelling. The municipality has a rich cultural life, home to the Nordic Artists’ Center and a popular theatre festival.
The coastal cultural site around Jensbua and the replica of the traditional boat “Bakkejekta” are must-sees when visiting Fjaler.
