The Fortress Museums, Fredriksten Fortress

Historical exhibitions of the fortress Fredriksten and Halden.
Fredriksten Museum, located in Østre kurtine at Fredriksten Fortress, offers a journey through Halden's military history and life at the fortress, from exhibitions covering the period from the 1640s to 1905. Visitors learn of critical moments, such as the Great Northern War's start in 1700 with young King Charles XII of Sweden, leading to Halden's siege. Exhibits also explore the transformation of Halden into a border town after the 1658 Roskilde Peace, the construction of Fredriksten Fortress, and its role in subsequent conflicts including the 1814 siege, and the Union period leading up to 1905, highlighted by a narrative in the former water tower.
