Kvitsøy
The 'Turstien Vest' walking trail runs through the open pasture and cultivated landscape between Kvitsøy Lighthouse and Håland. Along the trail, you’ll find rugged coastal scenery, old war memorials and sweeping views of the sea.
From Kvitsøy lighthouse to Håland
You can start the walk at Kvitsøy lighthouse in Ydstebøhavn or at Håland. From the lighthouse, follow the signposted path westwards towards the sea and then northwards through pastureland and gently undulating coastal terrain.
North of Håland, the path splits into an inner and an outer route. The inner route between the lighthouse and Håland is 2.1 kilometres, whilst the outer route is 2.3 kilometres. Along the outer route, you can take a closer look at one of the old World War II memorials. Other defence installations in the area are not secured for visitors, so always follow the marked trail.
The ground may be wet and slippery, and the walk involves climbing over several fences. The path is therefore not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Detour to Røde Skjegg
From the main path, you can take a signposted detour of around 250 metres up to the Røde Skjegg day-trip cabin. The cabin is open all year round and has a hiking library, a wood-burning stove and an outdoor toilet. It is intended for day visits only and not for overnight stays.
Please be considerate
The hiking trail passes through farmland where animals graze all year round. The local council has entered into agreements with the landowners regarding access along the marked trail. Therefore, please stay on the trail, use only the fence crossings and do not walk through the farmyard at Håland. Keep a safe distance from grazing animals and always keep your dog on a lead.

Access
From the ferry quay on Kvitsøy, it is approximately 1.6 kilometres by road to the start of the walk at the lighthouse and 1.8 kilometres to the starting point at Håland. Kvitsøy has narrow roads and limited parking capacity. Visitors are therefore encouraged to leave their cars on the mainland and explore the island on foot or by bike.
Access to Kvitsøy
Kvitsøy is a small community with narrow roads and limited parking capacity.
If you can leave your car on the mainland when visiting Kvitsøy, you are strongly encouraged to do so. There is ample parking at the ferry quay in Mekjarvik.
