A historic main building from the 1700s with a beautifully restored baroque garden serves as a gallery. On this magnificent site, the official farm Billerud at Kapp in Østre Toten, Peder Balke (1804–1887) painted a unique series of 12 murals in 1834. These works are the very heart of our offer and the main attraction here. During the summer months, visitors can also experience varied, seasonal exhibitions. New this year is a permanent exhibition that gives a deeper insight into Peder Balke's life and art. On the lawn outside, the monument "Wanderer", created by Henning Olav Espedal, welcomes everyone who wants to explore his fascinating murals.

Balke Centre
A historic main building from the 1700s, with a beautifully renovated baroque garden, is home to the gallery. It was here, in this house on the civil servant's farm Billerud at Kapp in Østre Toten municipality, that Peder Balke (1804–1887) in 1834 created a unique series of 12 murals.

These paintings are the very heart of our cultural heritage and the main attraction for our visitors. In the summer, you can also experience changing exhibitions in the gallery. From this year, you will also find a new, permanent exhibition that pays tribute to Peder Balke. On the lawn outside stands the artwork "Wanderer" by Henning Olav Espedal, a monument that welcomes guests to explore Balke's famous artwork.

With its fantastic location and panoramic views of Lake Mjøsa, the Peder Balke Centre is an attractive place to visit. The café Peders Fristelser serves homemade hot lunch dishes and exquisite cakes that must be experienced.
