Skeikampen, at 1123 metres above sea level, is not one of Norway's highest mountains, but it is easily accessible. It takes approximately 1 hour on foot to reach the summit.
The trail takes you on a scenic route along the Skeikampen ridge. The view from the top is outstanding, a gigantic panorama of the area around Skeikampen, the nearby mountains, the Peer Gynt Road, Jotunheimen and Dovrefjell.
The trail is 6-7 km long and takes 2-4 hours. It is a scenic walk which most people can manage. If you choose to go for the summit, there is a steep 350-metre climb over a distance of 1.5 km.
Follow the track towards the summit. When the road ends, follow the slalom route up. When you arrive at the top station of the chair lift, follow the path leading to the right (east) towards Steinhytta cabin. This is an easy way of picking up the northbound yellow trail. Yellow arrow is painted on the cabin. Follow the trail for about an hour until you arrive at a crossing where the yellow trail crosses the orange trail.
Taking the right-hand path (eastwards) will lead you along the lower side of the Skeikampen ridge, about 3 km, back to your starting point. From here, there is a good view over the golf course.
Otherwise, you can take the left-hand path (westwards), which is about 4 km. This route takes you over the western side of the mountain, with views over the Peer Gynt Road, Skeistua Guest House and Skei Mountain Church.
