The ultimate Svalbard experience: combine dog sledding with a tour in Scott Turner ice cave - Arctic Husky Travellers

  • Postboks 509, Spitsbergen
  •  /  km From You

Experience the joy of dog sledding in Svalbard with Husky Travellers - a small family business 10 km outside Longyearbyen, where we now have been for almost 10 years. In our kennel we have 30 great sled dogs that we travel with both summer and winter. We have been crisscrossing the northern hemisphere for more than 2 decades, and our huskies have completed both the world's longest sled dog race Iditarod in Alaska and Europe’s longest dog race Finnmarksløpet in Norway, and even travelled to the North Pole. We are pleased to offer small groups and families with children the joy of dog sledding in majestic Svalbard. We can also offer more demanding dog sledding trips for those with previous dog mushing experience.

We offer the 7 hour Scott Turner ice cave trip 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, other days on request). We pick you up at your accommodation/hotel by car 09:30 in the morning, and drive through the historical Adventdalen to our kennel in Bolterdalen. Here you get what you need of warm clothing (insulated overall, hat and mittens) and winter boots + headlamps. You will get all the necessary instruction for safe travel with your dog team. You will be 2 people per dog team (6-7 dogs) and alternate between driving and being a passenger. It is also possible to be a passenger on the guide team if you do not wish to drive yourself.  The dog sled trip goes through the scenic Bolterdalen, up the moreen and the Scott Turner glacier. Here we will anchor our dog teams and visit a large meltwater channel (the ice cave) which is situated approximately 12 km from our kennel. The ice cave has easy access and is particularly beautiful this year due to the mild weather over New Year which has resulted in spectacular ice crystals formations.  After the ice cave visit we serve a warm meal, coffee, tea and biscuits. We travel back the same route and will be back in town again around 16:30.
