University Museum of Bergen (Natural and Cultural History Museum)

The museum holds extensive collections in archaeology, zoology, botany, geology, anthropology, and Norwegian and international cultural history.

Here you can explore the historic building and experience our famous Whale Hall, the iconic Bird Staircase, or dive into the mysterious deep sea.

On the top floor, you will find treasures from the museum’s cultural history collections and unique objects from medieval church art.

Throughout the year, the museum presents several temporary exhibitions in natural and cultural history, based on new and exciting research from the University of Bergen.

Outside the main building you can visit the beautiful botanical garden, Muséhagen, with over 3,000 species.

Food

Welcome to the museum café Christie, operated by Godt Brød. Enjoy a delicious lunch, cakes, and baked goods in beautiful surroundings, either indoors or out in the garden.

Shop

The museum shop offers unique gifts, exciting items, and interesting books. The shop can be visited without a ticket.

Baby changing room, toilets & cloakroom

The museum has a baby changing room and cloakroom on the lower floor, with lockers for bags, backpacks, and valuables. Strollers should primarily be placed outside in the designated area. We also have a few strollers available to borrow.

How to Get to the Museum

The museum is located in Bergen city centre on Nygårdshøyden.

The light rail runs from Flesland Airport to the city centre; the last stop is Byparken.

From the Hurtigruten terminal, walk up Møhlenprisbakken across Nygårdshøyden - the museum will be on your right.

There are few parking spaces at the museum. If these are full, you will find several parking garages in the city; Klostergarasjen, Bygarasjen, and Grieghallen are all within walking distance of the museum.
