Join with us on an exciting and unforgettable three-day ski and snowmobile trip out on the west coast of Spitsbergen, the home of nature and powder, with overnight stays in Barentsburg, an active Russian coal mining town with a unique atmosphere.

Day 1:

The first day begins with pickup from your hotels and transport down to our headquarters. Here we give a briefing about the upcoming trip and the route choices, before we dress in warm snowmobile touring clothing and load our other equipment onto the snowmobile sledges. We drive due west and follow the coastline past some truly breathtaking Arctic scenery until we arrive in Barentsburg, just over 60km from Longyearbyen. We eat lunch in Barentsburg, and prepare our equipment for some skiing, before driving into Grøndalen on the other side of town. In the vicinity of Barentsburg lie several mountains and glaciers with great slopes and superb views over the surrounding area, which make for excellent skiing. In the absence of ski lifts we use our snowmobiles; they are much faster and much more fun. We return to Barentsburg in time for dinner at the hotel, where there is live music at the bar during weekends. Beer tasting at the brewery is an optional extra.

Day 2:

We make effective use of our time and head out straight after breakfast into the mountains surrounding Barentsburg. The mountains range from 600m-700m in height, with slopes ranging from 200m-700m in length and varied levels of steepness, with wonderful views over the fjord or the snow-covered glaciers. The west coast of Svalbard is renowned for having more snow fall due to warmer temperatures, so we can expect some excellent backcountry powder slopes in the area. We eat an expedition lunch out in the nature, with coffee and other refreshments. We will return to Barentsburg for dinner once we have taken full advantage of the time we have for skiing.

Day 3:

After breakfast we prepare to drive home once more. We return to Longyearbyen using a variety of mountain passes, narrow winding valleys, and another glacier or two, and expect to return early-evening after an expedition lunch out in the nature, with coffee and other refreshments provided. If time allows then we will ski a couple of extra slopes on the way back. Our friendly and professional guides have all the experience and drive to make this an unforgettable experience, while remaining safe in such a wild and unforgiving environment. We recommend that everyone drives their own snowmobile; this is easier than driving with a passenger. This trip is dependent on weather and ice conditions, especially early and late in the season, as well as a minimum number of participants.
