Trøndelag Food Festival will be held in Trondheim July 28-30, 2022.Trondheim is emerging as one of the most interesting culinary destinations in Northern Europe. Restaurants, food producers, farmers and fishermen are all gearing up to showcase Trøndelag as the official European Region of Gastronomy in 2022.
When visiting Trondheim the summer of 2022, make sure your timing is right. As Trøndelag Food Festival and Trondheim Brewery Festival begin on July 28 the city erupts into culinary activities. Foodies, baristas, families and beer brewing enthusiasts merge downtown to celebrate the food culture of Trøndelag. Throughout the event 250 000 people visit the festival sampling the vast array of flavors of the more than 200 local food producers present at the food festival. The food stands and stages are visually stunning, with decorations presenting old as well as modern Norwegian traditions and design. You may peruse the stands, which are organized by region, allowing you to taste mussels from the peninsula of Fosen and reindeer from the high plains of Røros.
During the festival there are cooking classes held at our partnership hotel Britannia Hotel, featuring the city’s best chefs, teachers and artisans. Learn about food preservation and fermentation, baking, seaweed and shellfish preparations, regional specialty foods and many more topics. The classes are popular as they teach people how to understand food traditions as well as new food trends using high quality local produce and practicing food sustainability. Stay tuned as classes are announced in May of 2022. There are also classes taught in English.
Trøndelag Food Festival has its own area dedicated to children and teens, where they can partake in all sorts of activities relating to farming, cooking seafood and exploring fresh produce. You can get on the smoothie bicycle and pedal your own blend of fruits and vegetables, you can learn how to make local salmon ceviche, or make your own waffles, or stuff your own sausage. The youth village motto is ‘learn by doing’, and the kids also get to experience where the food comes from and how it’s produced.
Come join us for three days of culinary festivities!
