Join us in the trapper’s footprints under the northern lights, a trip learning more about trapper's life and hunt the northern lights. Full moon trip in these periods: 11-16. Nov 11-16. Dec 10-15 Jan
Trapper’s life under the northern lights is a moderate walking trip into the polar night, where we head out of town to experience the magnificent arctic light.
The aim of this trip is not to walk fast or far, but to experience the magic darkness of the polar night and the arctic silence around Longyearbyen. We will provide you with headlamps and snowshoes, and your own Alaskan Husky if you would like. This is a moderate hike where we walk into Bolterdalen and experience everyday life of the trappers; the guide share stories and show objects from trapper’s life on Spitsbergen. If the sky is clear there are possibilities to see the magnificent northern lights. After the trip, warm drinks and cookies are served in the Trapper' s Station.
Trapper’s Station is situated about 10 km from the edge of Longyearbyen in Bolterdalen. It is a replica of old trappers’ stations and houses 90 Alaskan huskies trained for mushing. The station allows guests to see and feel how trappers lived in the wilderness hunting seals and reindeer. Buildings and the surroundings at the Trapper’s Station are designed to look like the original hunting communities in Spitsbergen.
