Join with us on an exciting and unforgettable two day snowmobile trip to Isfjord Radio, located out on the westernmost edge of Spitsbergen. This has been converted into a surprisingly modern and stylish hotel, with comforts that you would not expect to find so far away from civilization; as an added bonus, some of the best chefs in the archipelago are manning the kitchens.
The first day begins with pickup from your hotels and transport down to our headquarters. Here we give a briefing about the upcoming trip and the route choices, before we dress in warm snowmobile touring clothing and load our other equipment onto the snowmobile sledges. We drive due west and follow the coastline past some truly breathtaking Arctic scenery until we arrive in Barentsburg, just over 60km from Longyearbyen. Here we eat lunch at the Barentsburg Hotel or the Red Bear Brewery and there is plenty of time to explore Barentsburg. Our route following lunch takes us through fantastic and diverse nature; over mountain sides, up snow-covered glaciers and, if conditions allow, possibly even over frozen lakes. We are served a delicious dinner upon arrival to Isfjord Radio, followed by coffee and dessert.
After breakfast we prepare drive home once more. We return to Longyearbyen using a variety mountain passes, narrow winding valleys, and another glacier or two, and expect to return late-afternoon after an expedition lunch out in the nature, with coffee and other refreshments provided. Our friendly and professional guides have all the experience and drive to make this an unforgettable experience, while remaining safe in such a wild and unforgiving environment. We recommend that everyone drives their own snowmobile; this is easier than driving with a passenger. This trip is dependent on weather and ice conditions, especially early and late in the season, as well as a minimum number of participants.
