This is the trip for those who want to experience a different kind of Svalbard, on skis.

Imagine yourself standing on top of the Newton summit surrounded by miles of untouched wilderness, beautiful glacial landscapes, and the same mountain formations that once gave the island its name, Spitsbergen. This is the trip for those who want to experience a different kind of Svalbard, on skis.

On this trip we will climb two peaks: Perriertoppen, and Svalbard's highest mountain, Newtontoppen. From here you have a panoramic view towards Widjefjorden, Nordaustlandet, and Atomfjellene. The expedition takes place in April and May when the midnight sun is back, and the bright nights illuminates the nature day and night. Both climate and conditions are perfect during this period. The expedition is challenging, and all the participants needs to be well exercised and used to these kinds of expeditions.

Day 1:
A meet-and-greet will be held in the hotel reception at Coal Miners’ Cabins at 10 am, before we head down to our storage facilities to pack the sleds. The guide will give you instruction in the use of cooking equipment, pulkas and tents. Accommodation at Coal Miners' Cabins is included.

Day 2:
After breakfast and check-out, we head down to the expedition center for a safety brief, before further transport from Longyearbyen to Lomonosovfonna. We encourage you to leave all unnecessary luggage in the luggage compartment at your hotel. Breakfast and check-out before 10 am. The transport to Lomonosovfonna is around 110 km and snowmobile equipment will be handed out to you before departure.

Day 3 to 11:
The first day of expedition, we strap on our skis and head into the wilderness and towards Newtontoppen. The goal is to reach the top in two or three days. The last stage is relatively steep and can be reached by foot or by ski. For the next summit, the Perriertoppen, we will use crampons. No climbing experience is required. The guide makes sure that the snow conditions are safe.

Day 12:
We are transported back to Longyearbyen, where a nice dinner awaits. Accommodation at Coal Miners' Cabins is included.

Day 13:
Last day and the journey has come to an end. If you would like to extend your stay to explore the surrounding areas of Longyearbyen, please contact our sales department. We will help with accommodation or activity booking.

The program can be changed along the way if weather conditions makes it necessary. We will adapt the pace to the conditions and the participants' physical strength.

Included in the price:
- Accommodation in Longyearbyen
- Meals during the trip and farewell dinner in Longyearbyen
- Cooking equipment, snow shovels, glacier equipment, primus, fuel
- Tents
- Sleeping pad
- Experienced guides with all the necessary safety equipment
- Search and rescue insurance
- Transport from Longyearbyen to Lomonosovfonna by snowmobile or beltwagon
- Transport from the end point back to Longyearbyen

The price does not include
- Flight
- Sleeping bag
- Personal ski equipment
- Alcoholic beverage / mineral water
- Travel insurance
- Clothing and equipment

The trip requires you to be in good shape, strong and enduring enough to walk longer distances with a heavy pulka. Please remember that the weather can change quickly and that the conditions can be challenging at times. Bring good, warm winter clothes, mountain skis with skins and steel edges, sturdy ski boots with support, and good bindings. Randonée equipment or regular cross-country skis are not recommended.

We will send you a complete equipment list before departure. Remember that Svalbard is VAT-free, and if you forgot something, you can buy quality equipment in our store Longyear78.

Safety is our highest priority, and the guide needs to be able to give you instructions you understand. To participate on our tours, you must speak and understand English, or a Scandinavian language.
