Uburen is the hallmark at the crossing of the Lysefjord with the Høgsfjord, right behind the town of Forsand. The mountain's name is said to come from the word "utburd", which is old Norse for newborn children that had to be "carried out" when they were unwanted by their parents. The mountain is steep on most sides.

There is a broad path up from the south-easterly side. The summit area is a relatively flat plateau where you first have a nice view into the Høgsfjord towards Dirdal. On the summit itself, you see across to the Ryfylke archipelago and the Boknafjord whilst you have Forsand and the iconic Lysefjord bridge virtually at your feet. The trip is suitable for families with children from 6 years of age.

If you'd like an exiting family activity, ask Fossanmoen Icelandic-horse centre take your company for a ride - all the way to the top of Uburen!
