Oltedal

Uburhelleren

The cave at Uburhelleren was formed by a huge boulder that slid down the mountainside. The huge slab of rock came to rest on top of other rocks so that a large hall was created naturally underneath.

In the early days of the war, resistance fighters hid here and it was adapted with the intention of later use. Marked hiking trail from Jæren Friluftsråd's car park just before the old power station in Oltedal. A short distance from the car park, you'll find a lean-to shelter with a barbecue. The first leg of the hike is on a tractor road. After a quarter of an hour, signposting shows the way up the terrain, which is quite rugged. After half an hour, the large slab comes into view. No exact measurements of the stone have been made, but it is estimated that it weighs 70-80 million kilos!

When you come back down on flat land, take the path through the forest on the opposite side of the road. Here you can enter the road back on a bridge over the stream.

Trail: Signposted and marked hiking trail. Follow the signs until you turn off the forest road. 15 minutes to go up to the slab through the large scree of stones. In some places, stairs have been set up.

Access by car: RV45 to Gjestal Spinneri. To the right at the sign Oltedal. Follow the road to the sign "Energisenteret". Parking: 200 m before the Energy Centre.
