This snowmobile trip goes to the magnificent east coast, where the nature is untouched and the land frozen solid. A view that is hard to describe. You don't want to miss this amazing experience.
Visit the vast, untouched and frozen landscape of Spitsbergen’s east-coast. The home of the polar bear is packed with glaciers, icebergs and nature at its most extreme.
Close to 3000 polar bears roam on and around Svalbard during wintertime. The east coast is especially favourable for the polar bear as temperatures are lower and the sea ice more persistent than on the western half of Svalbard.
From Longyearbyen we will follow the grand valleys of Nordenskiöld land and head east towards the Rabot-glacier. The drive is long, but easy. From here we go up on the glacial-plateau. If the weather is favourable, we can stop for a little while and enjoy the spectacular view of Barents- and Edgeøya – two remote and uninhabited islands in the far east. Afterwards we head down towards Mohnbukta. As we head onto the sea ice, we circle around a mighty glacier front formed by the three converging glaciers Köningsbergbreen, Hayesbreen and Heuglinbreen. Enjoy the deafening silence and the magnificence of nature. Huge icebergs and sea ice as far as the eyes can see. This is Svalbard.
As this is the realm of the polar bears, we will always have to be on guard. On this trip we frequently encounter polar bears and get to enjoy them at a safe distance for both us and the polar bear. In addition this trip offers opportunities to meet reindeer, fox and seal.
