The islanders of Lånan have traditionally safeguarded the migratory eider ducks through their nesting season.

At Lånan in the Vega archipelago, the largest “farm” of eider duck egg and down nests in the Helgeland region, the ancient tradition of tending the nests is very much alive.

In April, the islanders are busy preparing the nesting sites for the ducks’ arrival in May.
When their nesting season is over, the treasured down is harvested and used to make the world’s best
down duvets.

Join us for a visit to Lånan and learn how respectfully the islanders treat the birds, on which their livelihood depend. Our boat trips are offered Tuesdays and Fridays from 1 June to 1 August.
