At the furthest inland reaches of Sognefjorden, surrounded by lofty mountains and deep fjords, is the venerable Vangsgaarden Gjestgiveri.
Here the Ohnstad-Stigen family has preserved traditions going as far back as the eighteenth century. This is where the salmon-fishing British gentry came to fish in the famous Aurland river throughout the nineteenth century. Later on, guests from near and far found their way to this idyllic fjord-side community. The old buildings at Vangsgaarden have since been converted into hotel rooms, restaurants and fisherman's cabins.
At Vangsgaarden no rooms are the same. Each room has its own unique charm - with views out onto the fjord, the mountains or the attractive hotel gardens surrounding Aabelheim. 6 new high standard cabins with bathroom, livingroom, kitchen, bedroom and hems(half-loft).
Vangsgaarden Motel/Aabelheim is among the oldest buildings in Aurlandsvangen, dating from the 17th century and is surrounded by a delightful garden.
