Your hosts, Anna and Jon Aga, create a wonderful and welcoming atmosphere at their hotel. This is the place to enjoy the surrounding scenery and the magnificent light, to relax with great dining, and to savour the tranquillity.
Culinary expertise and a world heritage
In their kitchen, Anna and Jon prepare delicious dishes. Each day they plan the restaurant’s signature five-course dinner based on the very best seasonal ingredients available from Vega and elsewhere in the Helgeland region. The dishes they proudly serve are a delight for the eye as well as the palate. Jon Aga has written a gorgeous cookbook: Jon Aga’s Taste of Vega is the translation of its Norwegian title.
The hosts firmly believe that the good atmosphere is key to guests thriving and yearning to return. You will discover how eager Anna and Jon are to share the World Heritage site that is Vega, the island’ unique culture, amazing scenery, beautiful arctic light, and of course to give you great dining experiences.
Hospitable hosts
Vega Havhotell is beautifully situated at Viksås on the northwestern shore of the island of Vega. The hotel sits right on the sea – in fact, havhotell means “sea hotel”. Nearby are trails to wander, and literally ten thousand islands, islets and skerries to explore. The hotel is known for its friendly hospitality, and your hosts will do their utmost to ensure that you have a great stay and a wonderful Vega adventure.
Explore the World Heritage islands
Due to its scenic beauty and the islanders’ unique cultural heritage, the Vega archipelago is a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and there is so much to experience!
Throughout July, you can visit the world’s only eider duck museum, situated at Nes. And at Gardsøy, just five minutes from the hotel is the World Heritage Centre, which shows how the islanders honour their ancient tradition; now as in generations past, they are the bird guardians of the migrating eider ducks who nest on Vega.
You should also consider taking the shuttle boat out to Lånan, the largest of the nesting sites, to see the details of the bird guardians’ practice.
There are numerous marked trails. We recommend, for instance, a hike to Sundsvoll where you can climb the new Vega Stairs and take the Via Ferrata challenge.
Cycling is a great way to explore Vega. At your own chosen pace you can immerse yourself in the amazing scenery. And by all means stop and chat with the locals, who are friendly and proud to see you appreciating their natural and cultural treasures.
Memorable holiday adventures
After exploring the island, it’s satisfying to return to your holiday base at the hotel, and to relax with good conversation over a fine meal and a glass of wine. The surroundings are cosy and the staff always attentive. In short, Vega Havhotell helps you create holiday memories of exotic Vega and the Helgeland coast – memories you will treasure for years to come.
