In Dovrefjell National Parc facing majestic Snøhetta Mountain you find spectacular Viewpoint Snøhetta voted "World Building of the Year" in 2011.

Viewpoint Snøhetta is situated on Tverrfjellet Mountain by the closed mines in Hjerkinn 1220 meters above sea level and has a magnificent view of Snøhetta Mountain. The building was designed from Snøhetta Architects as an assignment from Norsk Villreinsenter Nord. The building consists of one big room with a panoramic view of the mountain massif Snøhetta, and was awarded the title "World building of the Year" in what is known as the most prestigious architectural competition in the world. The pavilion tells the story of the area from 10.000 years back in time up until today. A short detour from E6 by Hjerkinn on Dovrefjell mountain lies a large parking area with information posts and sanitary facilities. From the parking area you are guided onto the tourist path leading to the pavilion. Fences resembling the old hunting fences used to hunt deer are posts of information about how the area for thousands of years has been home to hunters. Informative tablets of slate are set into the path. They tell the story of the area and its wild life. The path is wheelchair accessible. The Pavilion is 90 square meters and is designed to blend into the surrounding landscape. The pavilion itself is designed as a time axis that tells the story from last ice age up till today. The construction is wood, steel and glass and gives an unimpeded view of Snøhetta Mountain with its 2286 meters, once believed to bee the highest mountain in Norway. Experience one of the most beautiful views in the world!
