At Avaldsnes, you can be "Viking for a day". Dress up like a Viking and experience what life was like in the Viking age. What did Vikings eat, and how did they live? And what was it like being a boy or girl in the Viking age?
Avaldsnes- Norway's oldest royal seat! According to written sources Harald Fairhair himself, as well as other Viking kings, had their royal seat here at Avaldsnes. Now you can participate in an exciting journey back to the Viking age.
Just think of how big the world is! The part of the world we live in is called Midgard by the Vikings. At the centre of Midgard is the fortress known as Åsgard, where all the Viking gods live. The tree of life Yggdrasil, grows in the middle of Åsgard. This ash tree is so big that the branches spread out over the entire world. One of the roots of Yggdrasil stretches to Mime's well. This well is the source of knowledge.
Many Vikings travel from far away in Midgard; to trade with people in other lands, or to discover new places. Some Vikings even travel as warriors. But most Vikings remain in the place they live; on farms where they plough the earth and keep their livestock. Some Vikings are fishermen while others are talented craftsmen who make clothing, boats, and other items that are in demand. Viking children are goo in helping with the farm. There is a lot of things you have to learn before you are an adult. Luckily they don't have to work all the time. Playing is also important, just as it is for you.
It is now your turn to be a Viking and dip into Mime's well and extract some knowledge and become wise.
