Villa Fridheim

The fairytale house Villa Fridheim is one of Norway's most prominent and best-preserved Swiss-style houses. In addition to the beautiful villa with its unique architecture, we preserve our intangible cultural heritage with a particular focus on fairy tales and storytelling in our fairytale museum.
Exhibitions, concerts, and events emphasize our social mission and the enchanting experience you get when you visit our "Soria Moria" castle. The impressive hall is decorated with large fairy tale paintings by Egil Thorin Næsheim. Fairy tale tableaux by doll maker Ingebjørg Andersen Lithell can be seen on several floors, and each year, there is a new art exhibition at Villa Fridheim.
In the basement, you will find an exhibition about those who collected, told, and illustrated fairy tales and temporary solo exhibitions by contemporary fairy tale artists. The museum is primarily dedicated to the life works of Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe, but other fairy tale collectors are naturally included as well. The Brothers Grimm, who were Asbjørnsen's and Moe's most significant sources of inspiration, are also featured.
