Vindbalhytta, day-trip cabin on Utsira
Vindbalhytta is the day-trip cabin of Utsira, Norway’s smallest municipality in terms of population. To get to Utsira, you have to take the boat from Haugesund.
Utsira is about a 70-minute crossing from Haugesund, and the boat leaves from Garpaskjærskaien quay. The MS Utsira ferry service is free, but you have to pay to bring your car. Booking return tickets is recommended, and timetables and tickets can be found at www.kolumbus.no.
You can walk to Vindbalhytta from several directions on Utsira. If you bring a car, you can park it at Brakko in Sørevågen, and walk the roughly 200 metres to Vindbalhytta day-trip cabin from there. If you start from Nordvikvågen, the walk is 2 km. The walk is very easy, but the terrain can be very wet when it rains, especially the last 100 metres to the cabin. Good, waterproof shoes are therefore recommended. The cabin is open all year, but spending the night there is not permitted. If you bring your own firewood, you can light the cabin’s wood-burning stove. If the weather and the path are dry, the walk is suitable for everyone. If, however, the path is wet after rain, it will be very difficult for wheelchairs/walking frames. There is no toilet in the vicinity of the cabin.
- Family-friendly
