Right beside the fjord in the idyllic village of Solvorn in Luster lies Walaker Hotel which is the oldest family-run hotel in Norway, with more than 380 years of history.

Are you looking for a unique place packed with activities to spend your holiday? Look no further. The innermost part of the mighty Sognefjord offers it all. The charming town of Solvorn is a wonderful place to be with accommodation and nature in peaceful surroundings.

Walaker Hotel with its 22 rooms, which has been inherited from generation to generation, is a charming family hotel and an attraction in itself, located in the middle of the world`s best tourist destination, according to National Geographic. The hotel has been owned by the same family since 1690 and is the oldest family-run hotel in Norway, with over 380 years of history.

The hotel lies in the middle of the best that Norway has to offer. Majestic mountains, sparkling glaciers, clear blue fjords with a dash of culture, peace and great local food. Our kitchen serves fresh seafood from the fjord, mushrooms and venison from the forests and even juicy apples and berries from the surrounding farms.

The small town of Solvorn and the area around Walaker Hotell

Nestled in between the fjords and the mountains lies Solvorn, a historical small town filled with peace and quiet. With a history that takes us 1700 years back in time this is the perfect base camp for exploring the area. Solvorn has been a sleepy town since the mid 19th century when it was the centre of the area, with all its shops, industry and most important of all – the boat departing to Bergen. Everybody who lived in the surroundings came here to sell their produce and to do business. As the time passed Solvorn lost most of its importance, the car was introduced, the roads were improved and the towns around grew bigger. Today you can still see how the town was like 150 years ago. The buildings and the atmosphere are still very present, and it is one of the few remaining towns in Norway with this kind of unique architecture and history.

Solvorn is located in the municipality of Luster, a place that has some of the best sights in Norway and a lot to offer the adventurous; The UNESCO Urnes Stave church, Jotunheimen National Park and last but not least The Jostedal Glacier.
