Ingaleden - Hiking trail in memory of Inga from Varteig's escape to Folkenborg and Håkon Håkonsson's birth in 1204
Ingaleden is marked with blue and white metal plates by Inga from Varteig.
Start at the Inga statue by the municipal premises - Kongsrud - Gryte - Delebekk - Varteig / Rakkestad border - Skattabøl - Os church - Brøndtorpsameiet - Rakkestad / Eidsberg border - Skjørshammer - Eidsberg station - Folkenborg. A total of 33 km.
The white ribbons Inga holds symbolize the bandages that were laced around Inga's hands after she had to carry iron burdens. The bandages were removed, the wounds were gone, proving that she was a royal mother.
In some places, the Inga signes are supplemented with directional arrows, blue marking and place-name signs. Marking along roads with no intersections is sparse.
The landscape on the trail varies from hilly and partly wild terrain along Glomma in Varteig, to large agricultural areas and forest areas in Rakkestad and Eidsberg. On the way, the trail passes farms, scattered buildings and urban settlements, abandoned smallholdings and domestic sites, cultural historical monuments and livestock pastures.
The trail runs mainly on smaller rural roads, mostly on gravel, and with some lots on forest trails. The Ingaleden can also be cycled, but on three lots in Varteig (approx. 1.5 km) and one lot in Rakkestad (approx. 1 km) the bikes have to be held. On the route from Eidsberg station to Folkenborg it is recommended to cycle on paved road via Mortvet and Haga.
There are good parking opportunities both at Varteig municipality and at Folkenborg. In addition, there are parking facilities in several places along the way.
Public transport to start / finish: Bus stops at Ingastøtta in Varteig. From Folkenborg it is 1.5 km to the bus stop and railway station at Mysen. There are limited train and bus services on weekends. It is therefore recommended to plan your trip with www.ostfold-kollektiv.no and www.nsb.no
